Father Pierce

July 23rd, 2010

For this post, I will defer to the Schwalb blog, which has much better pictures than our own in this case.

Father Pierce will always remain in my mind as the Sean Connery look-alike that married Chris and I.

Bunk’s Near Death Experience

July 14th, 2010

Does this dog look like he’d jump out your car window? Trust me, he would.

On Sunday, Chris and I took Bunk out for a drive to get ice cream. He smelled the ice cream and immediately started acting like a big dork.

While driving home on one of the busiest streets in Fort Collins, Bunk stuck his head out the window for probably the second time ever. Before we could even tell him “no,” he had both feet out and fell/jumped out the backseat window. We were going about 20 to 30 mph. I looked back just in time to see a dog butt falling outside the moving 4Runner. There was a horrible puppy howl as he hit the ground, and Chris stopped in the middle of traffic. Bunk fell outside Chris’ side of the car, and thankfully it was on the side with the median and not into traffic. I didn’t see it, but Chris said that he could see Bunk rolling alongside the car.

Amazingly, Bunk walked away without being run over or breaking anything (confirmed by the emergency vet). He only has a few scrapes and was barely even sore the next day. It was a close call, but I’m beginning to think this dog is indestructible.

Bunk Update

June 9th, 2010

We’ve had nearly a week with the Bunk-ster, and we’ve already made training progress.

On Tuesday, Chris gave him the first serious crate lesson (my version of this lesson was listening to the howling for about 15 minutes before giving in). Chris’ training worked much better. He now happily goes into his crate to take naps throughout the day and is quiet the whole time.

We even left him in the crate for 7 hours (with a visit from a pet sitter to let him out halfway through) while I had a meeting away from the home office today. No accidents and not even a whine when I walked in the door. Smart puppy!

Bunk also had his first veterinarian visit and everything is perfect. The vet does think that he’ll be between 80 and 90 lbs. as an adult. This is what I repeat to myself when I’m trying to be patient with the puppy chewing (example: I just rescued my cell phone from his mouth about 30 minutes ago). Puppy chewing means that he’s actually still a puppy with all its cuteness. Plus, I’m bigger than him, can pick him up and can still outrun him.
