Goings On

The triumph of blogs is their ability to track the every day, the mundane. Their failure is giving equal reverence to events with more gravity. It’s easy to move on after blogging about the last place you’ve eaten or a funny joke. It is much harder to see more momentous occasions slowly make their way into the archive.

As you may have noticed, we haven’t posted much since Doc died. Blogging about our newest trip didn’t really seem as important next to his post. Recently, we’ve seen our friends’ blogs stall out while they mourn their friend’s passing. There are events that are just too big for a blog.

This is not to say we haven’t been living. So here are a few things we’ve been up to in the last few weeks. We are lazy and don’t have pictures of our own, but I hope you will forgive us just this once.

  • During Memorial Day Weekend, friends from Indiana University visited for a “highlights of Wisconsin” weekend. This — in case you do not know — includes beer, cheese and sausage. We took care of beer the first night with a few samplers at the Milwaukee Ale House. The next day, we took a tour of Cedar Creek Winery in Cedarburg, Wis. with a tour guide who was a part-time 4th-grade teacher, part-time tour guide and full-time wine drinker. The only good wine was the pinot grigio (if you like those in the first place). We drank wine and ate cheese in the park afterwards. Finally, we enjoyed brats at Brewers Stadium and sat in far left field watching the Brewers lose to the Atlanta Braves.
  • We celebrated our fourth anniversary on June 7 with a trip to Brewers Stadium to watch a baseball game a few days before the actual date.
  • Last weekend, we took a brief trip to Hutchinson, Kan., to see our friend Vern marry our new friend Annie. The happy couple should be honeymooning in Colorado right now. It was a beautiful wedding (the ceremony took 17 minutes, Chris timed it), and then we all headed out to AJ’s parent’s house for some porch sitting and beer drinking. We got to meet the newest member of the Crockett family, Addison. We also got to hear about the preparations for Sara and AJ’s upcoming addition, Milroy (okay, that’s just a nickname). On Sunday, we had a nice, long lunch with James and Kay before flying out.
